My mission is to help children discover their inner calm, to look within and find peace.   I work with children to  boost their self-esteem, self-confidence, increase their concentration, reduce anxiety and anger issues and help them to become more positive.

Firstly, a little about me.

  • I am a mother of 4 boys (3 – 12)
  • I am a trained primary school teacher with 19 years’ experience
  • I have a wealth of experience in working with children with a variety of special needs including SpL& C, dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, ASD, MLD and a range of complex emotional needs
  • Trained to teach meditation
  • Reiki Master, Crystal Healer, Rahanni teacher/practitioner

Problems such as stress, anxiety, depression, anger, self-esteem issues, self-harm, generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), post-traumatic stress disorder and eating disorders are unfortunately amongst the issues our children are facing today. For some children, this affects their relationships and learning.

Children are usually unable to manage their stress, anxieties and anger and it is often the resulting behaviours that indicate their inner emotions. Identifying stress and anxiety is only the tip of the iceberg, dealing with these emotions can be complex for different reasons. Managing stress is the way forward. Helping children to deal with such sensitive emotions can change their lives and allow them to remain calm, in control and focused. In fact, prevention is paramount in helping children before their emotions become all consuming.

Mindfulness has proven to help children to pay attention to the present, in doing so they can learn about their own emotional health by being more aware of what is happing in their bodies. From this, they will build better conflict-resolution skills, have increased empathy for themselves and others, raised self-awareness, be more respectful of other, be calmer and build resilience. Over time, participating in mindfulness, can benefit children to increase their attention span, resulting in better learners and increased self-esteem.

Mindfulness helps us to;

*achieve better relationships with ourselves and others

*gain increased focus and concentration

*regulate own emotions

*become less reactive and engage less in physical and verbal confrontation

*increase our confidence

‘Calmer-Kids’ is a programme which identifies the feelings of stress, anxiety and anger and encourages children to deal with their emotions, in a safe environment. It teaches them strategies through meditation and breathing techniques, positive reinforcement and exercises to encourage self-development. It also helps them cope with their difficulties and move towards living without fear. Essentially, ‘Calmer-Kids’ is a program which helps support children to regain control of themselves, in a positive way.

In my next post, I will share what the Calmer Kids programme look like, but for now any other queries, please email me, message me or visit my website www.calmer-kids.co.uk , alison.teaches@virgin.net, 07792289762
